"Lasting stability and peace in the region can only be achieved by normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia," said Josep Borrell.
The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy made the comments after separate meetings he had with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Kurti, at the meeting with Borel and the EU envoy for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, demanded that Serbia sign the Basic Agreement (Brussels, February 27; Ohrid, March 18) and lift the punitive measures against Kosovo.
Kurti emphasized that compliance with the agreements is necessary due to continuous violations by Serbia.
Serbian President Vucic announced that the main meeting between him and the mediators in the dialogue process was precisely Kosovo. According to him, there is an "attempt by Kurti to carry out a silent ethnic cleansing of the Serbs".
"I am afraid that the EU will not use real mechanisms to force Kurti to give up the daily provocations and attacks against the Serbs," said Aleksandar Vucic. /BGNES
