Anti-government protest in Belgrade after the tragedy at Novi Sad railway station

A big protest demanding the resignation of Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic is held in Belgrade.

The reason is the tragedy at the Novi Sad railway station where 17 people died after the roof collapsed.

Police are stationed outside the entrance to the ministry. A larger protest is planned in Novi Sad on Tuesday, 5 November.

Some of the gathered activists are wearing red-painted gloves and carrying "your hands are bloodied" banners - as a message to the authorities, the newspaper Danas reported.

"Are you going to arrest Minister Vesic? Has anyone asked him if he has resigned? He's probably hid like a rat in a hole," one of the protesters said to the police, reading their names from the badges on their uniforms.

The activists announced that this protest was only the beginning of civil disobedience and that they would participate in the Novi Sad protest as well, and that they would be more radical if they did not receive resignations by then. | BGNES
