Ageler: The US does not interfere in the internal affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia

"And we never intend to interfere. Decisions that are made in the Judicial Council or frankly in any other body of the judiciary are decisions that are made only by the leaders of this country."

The American ambassador in Skopje, Angela Ageler, said that the US is North Macedonia's most important strategic partner and that the US's goal is to support it, not to interfere in the country's internal affairs.

In an interview with the "200" show, Ageler was asked by a journalist to comment on Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski's statement that it has become a practice for ambassadors to interfere in the international affairs of North Macedonia, Ageler said she hoped he did not refer to her.

"And we never intend to interfere. The decisions that are made in the Judicial Council or frankly in any other body of the judiciary are decisions that are made only by the leaders of this country. We do not say who should to sit in any court. We don't say who to be a member of any council. Is it rife? When public support and trust in the judiciary is 2%. That is an accusation to the process," Ageler told Alsat TV.

Regarding the constitutional name, Ageler stressed that the United States has made it clear that international agreements must be respected for the country to progress.

In her view, the discussion about whether or not to use the constitutional name is a distraction from issues that are important to voters.

"Frankly, it's a distraction from the issues that are important to voters in this country," Ageler said. | BGNES
