A former head of the Serbian security services admitted to the beating of the opposition leader

The former head of the Serbian special services BIA, Aleksandar Vulin, admitted that the leader of the Republican Party, Nikola Sandulović, was beaten on his orders, BGNES reported.

In a separate statement, Vulin expressed "regret" that he could not have done more about Sandulovic. He admits that the order was issued while he was the BIA chief but was executed later. Vulin argued that Sandulović violated the Constitution and territorial integrity of Serbia by calling for the recognition of Kosovo's independence.

Sandulovic was arrested at his home on January 3 by agents of the Security and Information Agency (BIA). The beating took place after he was detained for questioning.

According to his daughter Klara Sandulović, the politician was neutralized with a military nerve agent. There are various marks and injuries on his body. The photos and videos clearly show the serious condition of the leader of the Republican Party.

Sandulovic is one of the few prominent Serbian politicians to accept Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence since 2008, and is also a strong pro-European voice in the country. This has made him the target of media attacks as well as physical attacks in recent years.

Aleksandar Vulin is one of the closest associates of President Aleksandar Vucic. He is a fierce supporter of a "Serbian World" that should revive Serbian hegemony in the Western Balkans. Vulin was removed from his post after being blacklisted by the US. /BGNES
