A 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook the Greek island of Lesbos

A strong earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the Greek island of Lesbos on 21 January.

The depth of the outbreak was located at 5 km and the epicentre of the seismic tremor was 10 km northwest of the town of Mantamados, Lesvos, the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Greece reported.

The tremor was felt in many areas, such as Chios and other Aegean islands , as well as in areas of Turkey.

At the moment there are no reports of material damage or casualties , but a better picture will be available in the coming minutes.

As a result of the earthquake, schools in the municipalities of Mantamado, Mittimna and Petra will remain closed. | BGNES
