11 murder victims and three days of mourning in Montenegro

A gunman killed at least 11 people, including two minors, in a village in Montenegro, near the town of Cetinje, reports BGNES.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Miloiko Spic declared three days of mourning in memory of the victims.

Doctors from the Podgorica clinical centre are currently fighting for the lives of four seriously injured people, Interior Minister Danilo Sharanovic said.

All police units, including special forces, have been searching for the suspect, Azzo Martinovic, for several hours. He later committed suicide near his home.

Martinović committed the crime in the Velestovo Tavern, near the Sports Centre in the town. A brawl took place there, after which the wanted man pulled out a gun and shot four people. He later fled in his vehicle and continued with further attacks at three other locations in the city. He killed at least seven other people, including three women and two children, brothers aged 10 and 13."

Prime Minister Miloiko Spic arrived at the hospital where the wounded were hospitalized. Emergency operations are underway to save them, but it is likely that the casualties will increase.

"A terrible tragedy that has affected us all. All police teams are now on the ground. We are searching for the perpetrator, we are on our way to catch him. Doctors are fighting for four lives," Spaich was quoted by Viesti as saying. He ordered to toughen penalties for those who illegally own and carry weapons.

"We have a chronic shortage of police officers in all municipalities. We will announce a competition to recruit police officers quickly, without waiting for the decision of the Council of Europe, and we will explain the decision later," Spaić added. | BGNES
